Zig Zag Dance

Creation, exhibition, training

Zig Zag Danza explores, since its creation in the year 2000, the territories shared by movement and theatricality, composing a singular creative universe in which light, sound space and scenic space share importance with the language of the body.

Directed by the choreographer Estrella García, the company has twenty productions and co-productions, aimed at both family and adult audiences.

Zig Zag Dance is an international reference name in dance for early childhood. From its headquarters in Gijón, the company defends an innovative and artisan project that is committed to artistic excellence, placing the youngest spectators and their cognitive development at the center of creation.

They have been part of programs such as FETEN, Baby Planet Festival, Gijón Dance, JEN Festival, Alternative Theater RED Circuit, Seville Dance Month, El Mes Petit de Tots International Festival, Cádiz International Dance Festival, PLATEA Catalog, International Festival de Teatro de Vitoria, Translation Festival, Sismograf Festival, International Dansa Valencia Season, Algiers International Festival, Danza Sur Festival, Palma amb la Dansa, Cuadernos Escénicos Festival, GESTO Festival, Teatrea Festival, Sueca International Mostra MIM, Translation Festival, Meeting Baby, Jorearte Festival, Espacio Tabakalera San Sebastián, Dance Baby Dance Festival of Aarhus and Ciclo de teatro da Beira Interior, among others.

Their repertoire also includes pieces by other artists, such as Ramón Oller or Marie O’Card.

The company also develops an important educational project, with training in dance, theater and plastic expression and the launch of international workshops.

El Huerto Performing Space

Seeds for creation, closeness with the audience

Zig Zag Danza is behind El Huerto Performing Space. Founded in 2010 and based in Gijón, this project is part of the Spanish Network of Independent Theaters and was recognized the 2013 Prize for Cultural Initiative awarded by the Association of Professional Theater and Dance Companies of Asturias.

The space seeks to link viewers with quality contemporary stage creation, inviting them to live the theatrical experience up close. Supporting young creators through artist residencies is one of its main lines of action. This commitment is also very present in its season of shows that, from October to June, launches the cycles Objetivo Chupete, El Huerto en familia, Festival Palabras de Hoy and BROTES_lab Festival. El Huerto Performing Space has the support of experts in different fields such as Dr. Ana María Pérez de Amézaga, focused on mediation with audiences and research projects.
